why dont u use pen tool? (its ok poylogan lasso tool, but i find better the pen tool bcs u cn make curves)

You are 100% correct!
Personally, when I do extract ... I use the Pen Tool.
This tutorial is for peeps who don't have a) Photoshop b) time to learn the pen tool.
It's how I first learned.
